To brighten up his employees’ Diwali, a Chennai-based jewellery business owner recently gifted the employees’ gifts such as cars and motorcycles worth Rs 1.2 crores. Mr. Jayanthi Lal Challani, a Chennai-based business owner gave the valuable gifts to his employees as a gesture of token to thank them for their support during the turbulent times that emerged on the outset of COVID-19.

Earlier last week, Mr. Jayanthi organized a reward ceremony for his employees where he felicitated his most loyal employees.

Ten employees got a brand new Maruti Suzuki Swifts, while twenty other employees were gifted Honda Shine and Honda Activa. To boost the morale of the employees, Mr. Jayanthi himself took to the stage and handed the felicitation key to his them.

Visuals of the rewarded employees smiling ecstatically after receiving their Diwali gifts have since been making rounds of social media.

“They have worked with me through all ups and downs. This is to encourage their work,” Mr. Jayanthi was quoted saying.

Earlier this year in April, an IT company in Chennai had turned heads and made it to the headlines for gifting as many as 100 cars worth Rs 15 crores to its 100 employees. The cars ranged from Maruti Suzuki Baleno to BMW 530D. The company in question is Ideas to IT, founded by Murali Vivekanandan.

The Facts of the Matter

It’s that time of the year again when employees hold their breathes, and cross their fingers in the hope of receiving special Diwali bonuses. Traditionally, these bonuses have ranged from a monetary token of appreciation, to a goodie bag of sweets and decorative items, to expensive vacation packages.

Special Token of Appreciation by Chennai Business Owner

Recently, a Chennai-based business owner set a new benchmark for giving Diwali bonuses. Mr. Jayanthi Lal Challani, the owner of Challani Jewellery, held a special award ceremony for his employees where he rewarded them with cars, motorcycles and scooty.

8 Cars, 18 Two-Wheelers

The businessman’s grand gesture came as his desire to thank his employees for enduring the tough times of COVID-19 with him and keep his ship sailing. In the special award ceremony, Mr. Jayanthi gifted a total of 8 cars and 18 two-wheelers for his employees.

According to S Balaji, the assistant manager of marketing and publicity for the Chennai-based business, Challani Jewellery is India’s first jewellery brand to gift cars and two-wheelers to the staff.

“They decided to stay with us..”

In his statement to media, S Balaji noted that the eight employees who got the car have been with the business since its inception in 2013. “We decided that the deserving staff should be lauded. The eight people who were gifted cars have been with the organisation right from its inception,” S Balaji said.

“Even during the pandemic, where it is common in this industry for people to jump from one company to another for a better salary, these people stayed with us. So, the company decided to reward the staff who were supportive during turbulent times,” he added.

Cars come with 5 Years of Guarantee, Insurance

Giving more virtues of the cars gifted to the employees, S Balaji noted that these were not ordinary cars, but cars that come with AMT (automatic transmission), and with five years of guarantee, insurance coverage and fully loaded petrol.”

To Encourage their Work

According to reports, the ceremony was kept secret from the employee, and all the employees were in tears when they took to the stage and were rewarded with the special gesture. “They have worked with me through all ups and downs. This is to encourage their work. We are giving cars to 10 people and bikes to 20,” owner of the business Jayanthi Lal Challani said.
