The Delhi police arrested a man for creating fake social media accounts in a woman’s name and posting her intimate pictures on the platform. The police took the action after the woman filed a complaint against the 33-year-old man whom she met on a matrimonial platform.
The accused has been identified as Rajesh Singh Suman, a resident of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Reportedly, the man had started threatening the victim after their marriage could not be fixed.
After his threats didn’t work, he started posting the girl’s private pictures, that she had shared with him while they were talking. After the arrest, the police found out that the man was earlier investigated on similar charges and his confession also fell in line with the same.
Background
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, India registered a total of 50,035 cases under Cyber Crimes. This was an 11.8% increase compared to 2019 when 44,735 cases were registered. On further analysis, it was revealed that a significant chunk (60.2%) of cyber-crimes were committed for fraud. This was followed by sexual exploitation and extortion (3,293 and 2,440 cases respectively).
Sections pertaining to cyber-crimes were added to the NCRB report back in 2017 after sexual exploitation, extortion and fraud was being carried on digital mediums.
Even after the IT Act and IPC has punishments laid out for committing such crimes, the veil of anonymity pushes people to invade privacies of other and harass them beyond a point of redemption.

The Facts of the Matter
An Aligarh resident identified as Rajesh Singh Suman was arrested by the Delhi Police for creating a fake profile on a woman’s name and sharing her intimate pictures on the profile to harass her. The accused is a 33-year-old man who met the victim on a matrimonial platform.

Victim Files Complaint, Gives Police Details on Accused
The police got to know about the case after the victim took to the police station and filed a complaint. In her complaint filed at the Dwarka South Police Station, the woman alleged that Rajesh was blackmailing, stalking and threatening her.
It all started when the two met on a matrimonial website. After talking to the man and even meeting her a couple of times, the woman ended up sharing her private pictures to him. Later, as the marriage couldn’t be fixed due to some other reasons, the accused started threatening the victim.
Rajesh threatened the victim that he will share all her intimate pictures with her friends, relatives and acquaintances through social media.
Later, the man acted on his threats and created a fake profile in the name of the victim. The profiles were created on both Instagram and Facebook. The man then started sharing the private pictures that the victim had shared with him earlier.
Police Swings into Action, Accused Was Involved in Similar Cases Earlier
After the case was filed, the police swung into the action. Using the digital footprint that the accused left behind, they arrested him from Aligarh. It was later revealed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Shankar Choudhary that Rajesh was arrested earlier in a similar case lodged against him in northeast Delhi.
The accused went on to confess that he had committed similar offences in the past with multiple women. The police are currently conducting a probe and the data on the accused’s phone is being analyzed.
