In Uganda, a hippo reportedly swallowed a 2-year-old child and ended up spitting him out thanks to a bystander’s presence of mind. The incident was reported from the town of Katwe Kabatoro in Uganda and occurred earlier on Sunday. Despite being swallowed by the wild hungry hippo, the 2-year-old child ended up surviving the ordeal, and lived to tell the tale.

As per reports, the unidentified child was playing on his own near his home on the shores of a lake when a hungry hippo emerged out of the lake. The hippo attacked the child and grabbed him with his huge jaws, almost swallowing him. The child could’ve been injured, or been a victim of a tragic unfolding had it not been for a bystander’s quick thinking.

A bystander, identified as Chrispas Bagonza, saw the hippo swallowing the child and immediately started chucking rocks at it, causing it to “vomit” out the boy. Following the incident, the Ugandan police issued a statement which read – “This is the first such kind of incident where a hippo strayed out of Lake Edward and attacked a young child.”

The boy meanwhile was rushed to a hospital, where he received minor treatment for injury on his neck, and received a rabies vaccine as a precaution.

Hippo Surfaces Out of Lake, Attacks Child

The incident was reported from the town of Katwe Kabatoro and occurred earlier on Sunday. The unnamed child was reportedly playing on his own when a hippo surfaced out of a lake and grabbed the child with its massive jaws.

For the unversed, a hippo’s bite force can measure as much as 12,600 kPA. To put this into perspective, a lion’s bite force is 4,500 kPa. Thanks to its large mouth size, the ability to open it wider than most animals, a hippo can easily tear a man down in two in a single bite.
