A massive purge-like situation is being witnessed at Twitter as 50% of the company’s workforce has been sacked, with Musk claiming to have ‘no choice’ as company is losing $4 million every day. Despite Musk’s preaching about transparency and accountability, it’s the trust and ethics teams that have been gutted the worst after his takeover.

The bloodbath on Twitter HQ has been so intense that swarms of employees were laid off in the middle of night, while some discovered being laid off during a work call, NYT reported. Chris Younie, partnerships team member took to Twitter and wrote – “So grateful this is happening at 3am. Really appreciate the thoughtfulness on the timing front guys.”

Michele Austin, a part of policy team in Twitter also shared similar sentiment and wrote – “Woke up to the news that my time working at Twitter has come to an end. I am heartbroken. I am in denial.”

Meanwhile, Musk himself took to Twitter and tried to reason out the 50% of the workforce being sacked. “Regarding Twitter’s reduction in force, unfortunately there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day. Everyone exited was offered 3 months of severance, which is 50% more than legally required,” he tweeted.

The Facts of the Matter

Many tech analysts and enthusiasts assumed that the introduction of an $8/month plan to retain Twitter’s ‘blue tick’ was one of the most radical moves Musk was taking after taking over the company.

However, these analysts and thousands of people who have been working for Twitter for years, were both proven wrong. What has followed next is a massive purge-like situation, where 50% of the company’s total workforce has been fired.
