In Odisha, a drunk man allegedly killed his wife over burnt turtle curry, and buried the body of his wife in the backyard over a month ago. The 36-year-old accused of the horrific crime has since been arrested and has been identified as Ranjan Bading, while the victim has been identified as Sabitri. The incident was reported from Odisha’s Sambalpur district and occurred in Routpada village.
According to reports, the incident occurred over one and a half months ago. On the day of the incident, the accused had purchased a turtle and asked his wife to prepare it. Sometime around lunch time, the accused came home for lunch in a drunken state.
As asked by him, Sabitri had prepared a turtle curry for her husband. However, Ranjan found the turtle curry to be slightly burnt and picked up a quarrel because of the same. The heated argument escalated as Ranjan started thrashing his wife in a drunk state.
The accused husband thrashed his wife so viciously that she lost consciousness. In the same drunken state, the accused left home and when he returned, found Sabitri to be dead. The accused told people that his wife had run away, while in reality, had buried in the backyard.

While one would argue that thanks to increase in awareness and stringent laws regarding domestic abuse, victims are no longer forced to live in the fear of being abused and harassed. However, the issue runs so deep in the minds of regressive men and women, that such instances continue to occur, shedding light on the fact that a lot needs to be planned and implemented.
Another incident of horrific domestic abuse has been reported from Odisha, where a man killed his wife over the trivial reason of burnt curry. The accused in the matter has been identified as 36-year-old Ranjan while his wife, the victim, has been identified as Sabitri.

Accused Brought Turtle Home, Asked Wife to Prepare Curry
Over one-and-a-half months ago, Ranjan, a resident of Routpada village in Odisha’s Sambalpur, brought home a turtle and asked his wife to prepare a turtle curry. At lunch hour, Ranjan came home in a drunk state.
As asked by her husband, Sabitri had prepared turtle curry.
However, when Ranjan found the turtly curry to be slightly burnt, he picked up a quarrel with his wife. The argument reached to a point of no return when Ranjan started to thrash Sabitri relentlessly.
Drunk Husband Finds Wife Dead Due to Thrashing
Such was the merciless beating of Ranjan, that Sabitri lost her consciousness. A drunk Ranjan then left his home for a few hours, and when he came back, found Sabitri to be lying dead. Ranjan then dumped his wife’s body in the backyard and buried it.
The Web of Lies & Investigation
Meanwhile, he told his neighbours and others local that his wife ran away. Earlier on Tuesday, the victim’s mother took to the Jamankira police station and reported that her daughter had been missing for over a month.
Based on the complaint, the cops filed an FIR, and soon an investigaiton was launched in the matter. As per police station in-charge Premjit Das, they first spoke to Ranjan over the phone about the entire matter and asked about his wife’s whereabouts.

The Ultimate Confession
The accused told the cops the same story and claimed that Sabitri had run away. However, when a team of cops took to the village and interrogated him regarding the matter, he tried to flee the scene. The police gave the accused a chase, and took him into a sustained questioning.
During the sustained questioning, the accused finally spilled the beans and confessed to have killed Sabitri. He also told the cops that he buried his wife in the backyard of his house. Soon a team of cops reached the spot and exhumed the body of the victim.
The accused husband who killed his wife over burnt turtle curry was arrested while the body of the victim was sent to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) for autopsy.
