In a horrific incident reported from UP, a 10-year-old boy raped a 7-year-old minor girl in Kanpur after watching adult film. The minor accused boy was taken to juvenile home following the incident. The minor boy was booked under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act after admitting to the horrific deed he had committed. The victim of the tragedy is a class 3 student, who was sexually assaulted when her parents were away.
As per Pankaj Mishra, a station house officer (SHO) in the area, the minor boy admitted to the crime, and was held as per relevant sections of POCSO Act. The boy was subsequently brought to the juvenile board, from where he was taken to the juvenile home.
The matter came to the fore after the victim’s father came home and found her crying and afraid. After talking to their daughter, the parents took to the local police about the matter. A complaint was filed and the youngster was questioned by the police.
During the questioning, the 10-year-old minor accused admitted to committing the crime after watching an adult film on a relative’s phone.
As per NCRB data released in September 2021, as many as 47,221 cases of POCSO Act were registered in 28 states and 8 U/Ts in India in 2020. Of these, Uttar Pradesh reported maximum 6,898 POCSO cases.
Background
After a minor was released in the aftermath of the infamous 2021 Nirbhaya gang-rape case, a nationwide debate was sparked regarding the need for tougher penalties for minor accused in rape cases.
In 2015, the Juvenile Justice Act was amended to make sure minors between 16-18 would receive harsher sentences for “heinous offences”.
The amendment was also looked at a deterrent for minors to not commit such crimes. However, such crimes continue to be committed, in all corners of the nation.
In one such incident, a 10-year-old boy was held for raping a 7-year-old minor girl in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

SHO Gives Details
As per Pankaj Mishra, a SHO in the area, a 10-year-old young boy was held after admitting to raping a 7-year-old girl. The matter came to the fore after the victim’s father, claimed that her daughter was home alone when the accused youngster sexually assaulted his daughter.
When the parents of the victim, a class 3 student, came back home, they found her crying and in a state of fear and trauma. They immediately took to the local police station to file a complaint regarding the matter.
Boy Watched Adult Film on Relative’s Phone
A case was registered, and the 10-year-old boy was taken into questioning. During questioning, the youngster admitted to have sexually assaulted the 7-year-old minor after he watched an adult film on a relative’s phone.

Minor Booked, Taken to Juvenile Home
The accused was booked under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and was brought to the juvenile board. He was then taken to the juvenile home.
UP Reported Most POCSO Cases in 2021
As per the 2021 report compiled and released by the National Crime Records Bureau, as many as 1,49,404 cases of crimes against children were reported in 2021, of which 53,874 cases were filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
The most number of crimes registered under the act from all the 28 states and 8 U/Ts came from Uttar Pradesh (7,129). UP was followed by Maharashtra (6,200 cases) and Madhya Pradesh (6,070).
