In a developing story, a US pilot has triggered panic across Mississippi after issuing an open threat to crash a small airplane into a local Walmart. The authorities have since initiated efforts to evacuate the locals to avoid any potential mishap. The Tupelo Police Department in a statement claimed that they have been able to establish connection with the pilot directly. The department also added that efforts are in full swing to evacuate the store and nearby establishments.

The pilot of the aircraft threatened to crash the airplane in the Mississippi Walmart, as per a Daily Mail report. The small 9-seeater airplane was reportedly “stolen” from the Tupelo Airport sometime around 5 am and has been circling over the town of the state for over an hour.

“TPD was notified that a pilot of an airplane (possibly King Air type) was flying over Tupelo.  The pilot has made contact with E911 and is threatening to intentionally crash into Wal Mart on West Main. Citizens are asked to avoid that area until an all clear is given,” a statement by Tupelo Police Department read.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves also took to Twitter and issued a warning that read – “State law enforcement and emergency managers are closely tracking this dangerous situation. All citizens should be on alert and aware of updates from the Tupelo Police Department.”

The Facts of the Matter

A potentially alarming situation is currently unfolding in Mississippi where a pilot stole an airplane and has since threatened to crash the airplane in a local Walmart. Visuals going viral on social media shows a small private airplane flying lower than an expected altitude in the Mississippi sky.

Mississippi Wal Mart Evacuated

In the view of a potential mishap, the local law-enforcement authorities have since evacuated the local Wal Mart and other establishments nearby. The authorities have also directed the locals to stay vigilant and stay away from the Wal Mart in question.

According to reports, the small 9-seter plane was found circling in the Mississippi sky and has been in the air for over three hours as of drafting this story.

No Reports on Pilot’s Background

Police have meanwhile confirmed that they have been able to establish contact with the pilot.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the pilot is affiliated to a terrorist organization. Further, no reports have yet emerged confirming the said pilot’s identity.

Police Department Gives Elaborate Report

In its Facebook post the Tupelo Police Department shared more details regarding the situation. “On 09-03-2022 at approximately 05:00 am was notified that a pilot of an airplane (possibly King Air type) was flying over Tupelo.  The pilot has made contact with E911 and is threatening to intentionally crash into Wal Mart on West Main,” the post read.

“TPD has worked with Wal-Mart West and Dodges on West Main to evacuate the stores and disperse people as much as practical.  TPD also has been able to begin talking with the pilot directly,” the post further read.

Crisis Averted or Prolonged?

In another update, the department further added that the plane was reported to be airborne north to Tupelo, Benton. It added that the state and Federal Authorities are keeping a close eye on the ongoing development.
