In a blood-curdling incident, a man in Nagpur was arrested for raping a stray female dog at a park. The accused was arrested after the video of his heinous actions went viral on social media. Meanwhile, the victim dog was later found bleeding, and is currently in critical condition, receiving treatment. The incident was reported from Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar and the accused was identified as 40-year-old Devendra Ganpat Bhagat, a Madhya Pradesh native.
The matter came to the fore after a complaint was filed against Bhagat by Parth Bhose, who took to the cops with the video evidence of the incident. The video of the incident was filmed by a group of boys playing cricket in the same park. The cops were later given a tip-off, and the accused was thereafter arrested, and booked under Prevention to Animal Cruelty Act.
Tanya Dubey, the founder of a dog-welfare NGO The Bark Club, worked with the cops to get the accused arrested. A TOI report quoted Tanya saying, “On Friday, we admitted the victim dog, which was bleeding severely, to the government veterinary hospital off VIP Road. We traced the culprit through our volunteers on Thursday itself after we saw the viral video”.
Earlier this week, two men in UP were arrested for cutting the ear, tail of two puppies, and eating them as a ‘snack’ with alcohol.
The Facts of the Matter
In a year filled with reports of gruesome murders and horrific crimes against women, animal cruelty and incidents of pervasive acts against animals were also at a shocking high. In yet another such incident, a man in Nagpur was arrested for raping a stray dog at a park after the video of his shocking act went viral on social media.
According to incidents, the 40-year-old accused has been identified as Devendra Ganpat Bagat, a native of Madhya Pradesh, who has been living in Nagpur as a daily wage labour. The accused as per the preliminary investigation, has been found to be an alcoholic.

Youths Take Video of Accused
The incident came to the light after a complaint as filed by one Parth Bhose. Earlier this week, Bhose took to the police and showed them the video evidence of Bhagat raping a female dog at a park in Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar area.
The triggering video of the incident, making rounds of social media, shows the accused transforming his pervasive mind into matter and subjecting a female dog to it in broad daylight.

Accused Booked, NGO Tips Off Cops
The video of the incident was caught on cam by some youths who were playing cricket there. The cops registered a case against Bhagat under multiple sections of the IPC, Maharashtra Police Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
An investigation was soon launched, and the accused was arrested thanks to tip-off of a stray dogs NGO The Bark Club. The Bark Club founder Tanya Dubey was quoted in a TOI report saying, “On Friday, we admitted the victim dog, which was bleeding severely, to the government veterinary hospital off VIP Road. We traced the culprit through our volunteers on Thursday itself after we saw the viral video.”

“Habitual Offender”: NGO Founder
Tanya told TOI that by the way the accused committed the crime, it appears that he may be a habitual offender. Preliminary investigation revealed that Bhagat is married with two children. His family stays at his native town in Madhya Pradesh, and he has been in Nagpur.
He was later produced before the court, and has been remanded in custody.
