In a heart-wrenching incident, the family of 20-year-old Mohit Kumar, a promising B.Com final year student, fell victim to a devastating combination of circumstances and misguided superstitious beliefs. Mohit, a resident of Jairampur Kudena village, suffered a snake bite while working in the fields on April 26th.

Despite initial medical intervention, Mohit’s condition failed to improve, prompting his family to seek alternative remedies. Tragically, they were misguided by certain individuals who propagated the belief that suspending Mohit’s body in the flowing waters of the Ganga river would neutralize the snake venom.

A Devastating Turn of Events

Acting on this unfounded advice, Mohit’s distraught family carried his lifeless body to the sacred river and kept it submerged for two harrowing days. However, their desperate attempt to revive him through this unproven method proved futile, and Mohit’s life slipped away.

The distressing incident came to light when a video capturing the family’s actions began circulating on social media, sparking concern and sorrow within the local community.

A Brilliant Mind Lost Too Soon

Mohit, described as a bright and gentle soul by his peers and neighbors, was on the cusp of taking his final B.Com examination on May 4th. His untimely demise has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, casting a pall of grief over the entire village.

“Mohit was not only an exceptional student but also a kind-hearted individual loved by everyone in our community,” said a tearful neighbor, expressing the collective sorrow felt by the villagers.

A Wake-up Call for Awareness

While the family’s actions stemmed from a place of desperation and misinformation, this tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of scientific knowledge and the potential dangers of relying solely on unsubstantiated beliefs.

Local authorities and healthcare professionals have emphasized the need for increased awareness campaigns to combat the spread of harmful superstitions and promote evidence-based medical practices, especially in rural areas.

As the village mourns the loss of a promising young life, Mohit’s story stands as a poignant reminder of the importance of education, critical thinking, and the pursuit of factual knowledge in overcoming harmful traditions and beliefs.
