Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is of the opinion that someday in future smart glasses might help people to “teleport” into the future. According to Mark, smart glasses and following virtual meetings will help reduce the effects of travel and climate change.

While in an interview with Information, Zuckerberg said, there is no doubt that cars and planes and all of them are going to be. But the more we can teleport, the more we not only are removing commutes and stuff in which we kind of drag around but it’s better for society and the planet at large.

Technology giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook have been exploring the augmented reality and virtual reality technologies for a long time now. Google apparently was one of the first movers in the industry to introduce Google Glass.  Even when the consumer version of the glass did not take off, Google Glasses has found its applications in the enterprise space.

Microsoft is currently working on ‘mixed reality’ through HoloLens. Recently it introduced a technique called meshes. Powered by Azure Cloud, Mesh provides advanced mixed reality capabilities.  The company aims to combine augmented reality and virtual reality in a way that can change the way employees currently communicate. The technology works on its HoloLens headset, but is likely to be available on other VR headsets as well.

Facebook has also invested in virtual reality. The company also owns Oculus, one of the world’s top virtual reality companies.  According to the news, the social media giant is also working on smart glasses. The company is said to have introduced eyeglasses in association with Ray-Ban and parent Luxottica Group SpA.

According to Zuckerberg, the company is hoping to deliver normal-looking connected glass that shows the material.

“There are all these terrible use cases that come from this … Instead of calling someone or having a video chat, you just snap your fingers and teleport, and you’re sitting there and they’re on Zuckerberg.  Said their couch and looks like you belong together.

On virtual teleportation, he explained, “We talked a little bit about climate change, just before it became so important.”  People just want to travel a little less in the future and do it more efficiently, and may be able to visit places without traveling or commuting time.”
