Apple is in the process of introducing iPhone13 and foldable phones in the near future. In a new prediction by Ming – Chi Kuo, a top-level analyst at Apple, suggests that Apple is working on four different models of the iPhone 13 the release of which is planned in the second half of the year.

What is in the 2021 lineup?

The line-up which will be succeeding the most successful iPhone 12 series, could have

  • Smaller notch
  • 120Hz displays for “Pro” models
  • Larger batteries
  • Improved 5G modem
  • Of Course, better cameras

Kuo, the analyst, suspects the next-generation aka iPhone 13 series will be improved versions of existing devices. This is based upon the plan of Apple wherein the changes they bring will be minor changes to the new lineup.

Design of iPhone 13

The 2021 iPhones are likely to retain the same design as the iPhone 12 series. Also there will be an inclusion of a 5.4-inch iPhone “Mini”.

Though there have been rumours about Apple shutting off the smaller sized iPhone due to poor sales, that’s not the case up till now.

According to Kuo, All new iPhones will continue to have a proprietary Lightning connection for power and data. The analyst, as per his observation, said that Apple is already offering a USB-C connector on its high-end iPads but till now it has ditched the Lightning connector on its popular iPhones.

According to the predictions of Kuo, the analyst, the iPhone 13 lineup will be heavier than the iPhone 12 devices. Reason being larger battery capacities than the iPhone 12. With that he also adds that at least two high-end iPhone 13 models will have 120Hz displays. Simple meaning for better understanding is that the refresh rate will be 120 times every second, for a smoother user experience.

Looking at the rivals of Apple in the smartphone business like Samsung, they have been offering phones with 120Hz displays already.

According to Kuo, the iPhone 13 lineup will have features like a smaller notch. He says, notch has been harmonious on iPhones since the launch of iPhone X in 2017. But Apple will likely give up the notch and introduce hole-punch display to the iPhone 14.

Getting rid of the notch might require Apple to redesign the iPhone to accommodate a full-screen display.

But still a big question that stays is how will Apple include the Face ID components and other sensors in a punch-hole camera.

According to the Experts, the whole process would be very complex and expensive.

 New iPhone SE in 2022

Kuo put forward that Apple doesn’t have any plans to launch a new iPhone SE model this year. However, it is believed that Apple will introduce the updated iPhone SE with an improved processor and 5G.

The new iPhone SE model may include Face ID and edge-to-edge display, like the iPhone XR. It is still said to include a 4.7-inch screen and the iPhone 8-like design.

Foldable iPhone in 2023

Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple do have plans to launch a foldable iPhone by 2023, with A screen of about 7.5-inch to 8 inches.

The top-level analyst at Apple believes that the foldable iPhone may resemble the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. There is no confirmation though as Apple has not officially locked the design.

As per Kuo’s prediction, Apple isn’t not in a hurry to launch a foldable iPhone like its competitors. A major reason could be that the foldable form factor is still unproven due to the durability of displays and the high cost of manufacturing.
