In a concerning development reported from Tamil Nadu, a viral video of some school girls drinking beer in their school bus has triggered an enquiry in the matter by the administration. After the video had gone viral earlier this week, it was considered to be an old video. However, according to an India Today report, the incident took place on Tuesday this week.
According to the police officials the video was taken when the school girls were in their bus, traveling from Thirukazhukundram to Thachur. In the video gone viral, a girl can be seen opening a bottle of beer and drinking the same.
Soon, other girls who were in the bus also joined the girl who started the ordeal and passed the beers to each other and started taking swigs from the bottle. When a passenger from the bus tried to intervene, the girls started to shout at the person. According to the educational officer, since the incident happened outside the school, it’s the police who will conduct the probe.

Incident Happened Earlier This Week
Initially, the video was believed to have resurfaced on the social media and was considered to have been recorded recently. However, the police took cognizance of the matter and revealed that the incident happened as early as Tuesday this week. Reportedly, the school girls were in the bus, on their way to Thachur from Thirukazhukundram. Further, according to an India Today report, all the students are believed to be from government school in Chengalpattu.
In the video of the incident that has since gone viral, a girl can be seen opening a bottle of beer and drinking the same. Soon, other students in the moving bus join the girl and also start drinking beer.
Education Minister Says Police Will Conduct Probe
After the incident’s video went viral, Rose Nirmala, the District Education Officer in Chengalpattu said that as the incident took place outside the school in a moving bus, it will be police who will be investigating the matter. She further added that the department will take further actions against the students at their level after the police is done with the enquiry.

Similar Incident: Karnataka Students Were Served Alcohol in 2017
It should be noted that a similar incident transpired in 2017 in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district. In a government high school in the district, some school children who were out on a trip with their teachers as guardians, were served alcohol when they said they were thirsty.
The students were on their way back after visit tourist spots in Dakshin Kannada. Near Hassan city, the students complained of being thirsty. The school headmaster and two other teachers reportedly mixed alcohol with water and served the same to students of class 8, 9 and 10.
Parents were obviously apalled at the incident and complained about the matter to the School Development and Management Committee (SDMC). After a probe, the headmaster and the two teachers who were accompanying the students, were suspended.
