On a pleasant morning at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, he met with the Indian Olympics Champions over breakfast and held a treat for them. The menu was, as promised to the players, like freshly churned ‘Churma’ for Neeraj Chopra and Ice-cream for PV Sindhu. PM shared some precious moments with the athletes. It was not just the winners who had breakfast with the Prime Minister. There were also others, who may have unfortunately failed to make it till the podium despite putting in their best efforts. He also praised the athletes for their hard-work and discipline they put in during the game.

Promise Kept: Churma For Neeraj Chopra
PM Modi kept his promise and served the Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra with the ethnic Haryanvi dish, ‘Churma’, which is a simple but rich in flavor sweet. Neeraj became the first athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympics from India since 2008.
Churma is not only just Neeraj’s favorite but is fondly loved by other athletes like wrestlers Bajrang Punia, who bagged bronze medal in 65kg weight class, and Ravi Dahiya, who secured silver medalin 57kg category.
PM Modi Calls Neeraj an Extraordinary Player
PM Modi asked Neeraj about his confidence during the event and his reaction at the win. He asked the athlete that, “You began celebrating after the second throw. This needs such a high level of confidence, how did that happen?”.
To this the star player replied that, “I have been training for so many years. We athletes understand the effort we put in and if it is the best throw. My confidence comes from training.” After the conversation PM Modi called Neeraj an “Extraordinary Player”.
Neeraj Chopra also presented PM a javelin with his signature on it as a token of respect and gratitude for showing trust in him and giving him a chance to brighten up the Indian pride.

Ice-cream and Chat with PV Sindhu
During an online meet prior to the Olympics with badminton star P.V. Sindhu, PM had told her they would have an ice cream after her victory. And voila! She secured her victory and finally got to eat ice-cream with PM over breakfast.

The Presented Sports Equipment to Raise Funds for Good Cause
She had presented her racquet to PMlikewise Neeraj has presented his javelin. The Prime Minister asked them both whether he could auction their presented equipment to raise funds for a good cause and the athletes respectfully agreed to PM’s request.

PM with Pehelwaans (Wrestlers)
The PM also spent an ample amount of time with the Indian Wrestling Team. Praising wrestler Punia, PM said that it was inspiring how he fought with a foot injury. Meanwhile, the PM gave his kind words to Vinesh Phogat about her being saddened.
Later during the event, PM Modi met silver medal winner Ravi Dahiya. He enquired why he wasn’t happy at the podium. And praising him PM Modi told the wrestler that a podium win was something to be proud of and urged him to smile the next time he secures win.

PM Modi Praised Many More Athletes
PM Modi also met with the women’s hockey team players and coach and praised them for their efforts in the Olympics. When Deepika Kumari, the World No. 1 archer, told him that she had been disappointed at the Olympics, he kindly replied that, “A sportsperson never loses hope.”
He also complimented the first Indian fencer ever to qualify for the Olympics, C.A. Bhavani Devi, for her efforts and dedication. Examining her sword, he told that, “You have inspired the children of India to take up this new sport with interest.”
